retarded? who's retarded?

I absolutely f'n hate it.

I read this post about "Things Losers Do In Friendster" post from supposedly one of my friends in Multiply. And that post contained this:

FOUR
Nobody cares about threats over the internet.
Don't try to act hardcore with the keyboard.
Fighting online is like racing in the special Olympics;
even if you win, you're still retarded.

And isn't that just plain stupid? I replied and said this:

i didn't like the bit about the Special Olympics... the invalid and the, how did u say they were, retarded?, didn't choose to be invalid or retarded. :/

I think it's beautiful when despite being dealt a bad set in life, those "retards" manage to surpass their pain and turn it into something inspiring.

So to anyone out there who says the Special Olympics are for retards, honestly, do this world a favor and shoot yourself. That would be one less retard on Earth. :-/

It absolutely pisses me off when people are just stupid bigots. The same goes for homophobes. Why can't you just leave other people alone? Why the need to shove into people's faces that they are, in your opinion, defective? I think it's beautiful that two people who are "dysfunctional" as society terms it, are able to find each other and love.

If you were born with two eyes, two ears, a mouth, a nose, two hands, two feet, with functioning complete internal organs, and a preference for the opposite sex... congratulations, you're lucky to be dealt a good hand in life. Please do not be stupid and think that because the person next to you doesn't look, think, or prefers the way you do, that they are either retarded, queer, or weird.

If you're born lucky, please use that luck to inspire others. Don't use it to act superior. I've known invalids who have lead magnificent lives, that had they been not born with an incapacity, they would've been perfect.

I really, really hate it when people put down others. People in power should never abuse it... they should instead look to their lesser brothers and reach out. Touch their lives. Inspire.

When I was in College and studied Philosophy, we learned about the concept of "Meron"... "Nagmemeron"... it is something that's hard to translate into English because the concept is so dynamic that to put a name to it would limit it. In the simplest way I can, the concept of "Meron" means that all living beings are alive and continue to be alive. Thus being alive, you can never define them in their entirety. Because to define something in its entirety means that it is no longer living - it is no longer alive. What separates living things from non-living things is its ability to grow... and when something doesn't grow, it is referred to as dead or non-living. The concept of "Meron" is like that... that all things are in a constant state of growing. And growing means changing. Changing means there is always hope. Thus, hope springs eternal.

So people who say that invalids can never be anything but invalids, are wrong. The concept of "Meron" taught me never to put a lid or a limitation to any living thing. Today you can be an alcoholic loser, but tomorrow you can become a better person. The concept of "Meron" taught me to better appreciate the world around me. At times, I forget and lose the ability to believe or hope... but "Meron" reminds me that when people define or put labels on living things, people cage them and don't allow them to grow as they should.

I hope this small blog reaches your hearts. Please let's change our attitude of putting the "less fortunate" ones down. They are people like you and me. They have feelings and they hurt too, more if not as much as we do.
