two days with bruiser

I never truly imagined until now how challenging it is to have a pet.

We had a pet before, but it wasn't really MY pet, it was the family pet, ergo someone else took care of it - feeding, training, cleaning, exercise, etc.

Now that I bought my own and keep it in my room in my apartment at night... -sigh- i now have a little zooming furball to take care of and watch over.

it's tiring... i tell you, it's absolutely tiring.

on day 1, since i bought him as a spur of the moment kind of purchase, i didn't have his stuff yet. so he had to sleep on a makeshift bed (aka floormat) and make do with a rubber ball as a toy. he had to drink on makeshift petbowl too.

day 1 was... insane. he's only three-months old, so he hasn't any training whatsoever yet. so he constantly peed on the floor. and after eating his first meal, he hasn't pooped. that got me worried.

i had barely slept around 1:30am, when he woke me up with his antics at around 3am. i found out he yet again peed on the floor. and when i took him out so he can finish his pee... he pottied. good thing. really really good thing.

he kept me up for a few more hours after that. and i finally slept again at around 4am. i knew it was 4am bec of the garbage truck collection.

at 6am, he woke me up again and the first thing i did was spring off the bed to check if he peed on anything. he didn't. -sigh- i plopped back on my bed wondering if i imagined sleeping or if i really did. i had my tita fetch him from the apartment so he can be fed at 8am while i try and get some more sleep.

i was woken at 1130am by my parents bec we had to go and get his stuff. i learned that he peed twice already that morning, both inside the house. -sigh-

day 2 is a little less stressful but stressful nonetheless. we went to Cartimar to get his stuff. his doting grandparents bought everything useful. we both a sizable kennel for him to stay at night. a chew toy, a drinking bowl, powder, hairbrush, toothbrush and leash. he stayed in the van while we made the purchase though... as i heard he can get all sorts of virus if taken to a place where many other dogs are.

when we got back, i made him stay in his kennel for an hour, and afterwards i made him drink water and we went out where he peed. yay. brownie points for me. it took 30mins or so though before he did his peeing.

later that evening, after being fed and after drinking water again, he was taken outside so he can go potty and pee. of course he didn't. -sigh-

when we got back to the apartment... he peed on the floor again -sigh- and that was after i just washed his paws so he can be ready for bed. he bumped into his makeshift bowl (the real one is in my parent's house) and splashed water all over the floor. -sigh-

the good thing though is after being taken to my terrace/balcony, he pottied and peed. so that's two days of potty in the same place, and peeing more or less in the same place while he's here in my apartment. i pat myself on the back for small accomplishments.

while i'm writing this, he's sleeping on the floor. he must be tired from all the running around and playing with his new toys.

before i go to sleep, i will take him out again so he can go pee for one last time before i put him in his kennel so we can both sleep decently tonight.

wish me luck :)

PS: I got the name Bruiser from Elle Woods' pet chihuahua, but I googled it just the same and Bruiser apparently means "small, black dog" which fits perfectly... so apparently, without knowing it, i did choose a good name. ^_^
